Project M.

Perched above Narrabeen Lake on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, this new family home draws inspiration from the owners’ travels through Brazil and Palm Springs. With a love for mid-century architecture and a desire to connect more deeply with their spectacular coastal surrounds, the brief was to create a timeless yet vibrant home that embraced natural materials, light, and personality.

The design explores an earthy, tactile palette that feels grounded yet fresh. Polished concrete floors, rust-toned quartzite benchtops, and custom timber joinery are layered to evoke the quiet elegance of modernist interiors, while elements like the timber detailing, and brick walls echo classic mid-century forms. A central staircase, designed as a sculptural joinery element, connects all three levels. Acting as the home’s vertical spine, it offers a light-filled journey that plays with form and materiality.

This project is a celebration of nostalgia and new beginnings — a thoughtfully designed family home that honours its setting, supports daily life, and captures the spirit of slow, joyful living.
